More than 100 hundred million users, including at least 15 million youth, now employ e-cigarettes, driving a recent surge of nicotine dependency, as stated by recent global medical findings.

Children are, typically, nine times more prone than adults to use e-cigarettes, per current international statistics.

Electronic cigarettes are fueling a "recent wave" of nicotine dependency, stated a prominent health official. "They are advertised as damage limitation but, truthfully, are addicting youth on nicotine sooner and risk weakening years of improvement."

"Numerous of people are ceasing, or avoiding tobacco consumption thanks to tobacco regulation initiatives by countries around the planet," the official said.

"As an answer to this strong progress, the tobacco industry is resisting with new nicotine devices, actively aiming at youth. Authorities must respond quicker and more vigorously in implementing proven tobacco-control measures," the representative further stated.

The vaping numbers are an estimate since some states - 109 in all, and many in African and Southeast Asia - lack statistics.

Per the study, as of recent February this period, at bare minimum 86 million e-cigarette users were mature individuals, mainly in wealthy countries.

And at minimum 15 million teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15 currently vape, based on surveys from 123 states.

While several states have attempted to establish e-cigarette regulations to tackle underage vaping in recent years, by the end of 2024, 62 states yet had no regulation in effect, and 74 countries had no age restriction at which e-cigarettes can be purchased, states the health authority.

At the same time, tobacco consumption has been decreasing - from an estimated 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Frequency of tobacco usage among females decreased the most - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

With males, the reduction was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But a fifth of mature individuals globally yet uses tobacco.
